ABOUT US
The Cotswold Breakthrough Group was set up in June 2005 by Eira Hooper following her own treatment for this disease. On setting up the Group, Eira said “It is something positive that I felt I could do. To me every £1 is at least 5 more petrie dishes!”
Breast cancer is a disease that currently kills more than 1,000 women every month in the UK alone. The idea behind this group is not only to raise funds, but also to offer supporters the chance to meet up and enjoy themselves, whilst doing something really worthwhile.
In 1999, Breakthrough opened the UK’s first dedicated breast cancer research centre in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research. The Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre has over 90 world-class scientists and clinicians working in a co-ordinated effort to find a cure for breast cancer. Sadly, Eira lost her battle with the disease in 2008.
